Mr. Malkin is a solo practitioner and pool attorney with the Office of the Public Defender, Office of Parental Representation. Internship is opportunity to learn about issues relating to defense of child abuse/neglect cases. This internship is ideal for students interested in family law, psychology, and social justice. Interns will learn about the problems that lead families to become involved with the system, and how attorneys assist their clients in navigating it. Parental Defense is a very challenging and difficult field of family law and an ideal opportunity to learn about the problems faced by parents involved in the child welfare system. Special attention is devoted to social justice issues of systemic racism (including unconscious bias) as those issues relate to the child welfare system, and the legal system as a whole.
